Q&A with Rebecca!
I get asked certain questions all the time — both online and in person — by people who’ve read my writing or seen my posts.
And honestly? I’m still humbled that anyone would even want to ask me these things.
So I’m starting a new little series called “Q&A with Rebecca” — where I’ll answer the most common questions I get about hearing God, healing, freedom, and the prophetic.
And I want to start with this one 👇
“I wish I could hear from God like that.”
Here’s my honest answer: you can.
I am not special, y’all. I’ve just lived through some really difficult circumstances that forced me to rely on God’s voice when He was all I had.
When my mom would go into an episode and I didn’t know what to do, I’d lock myself in my room with my Bible and just cry. We didn’t have cell phones then (or even reliable signal if we did).
So I’d ask God what to do and open my Bible wherever it fell.
And 9 times out of 10, it was exactly what I needed to hear.
That’s when I learned God isn’t distant — He’s deeply personal.
He still speaks to His children today. The real question is: are we listening?
“Do you hear God audibly? What does His voice sound like?”
I’ve never heard God with my natural ears — but I’ve heard His tone in my spirit. I have also heard his laugh!
It’s hard to explain. It’s like having ears on the inside.
When it happens, it carries this weight — gentle but powerful.
The number one way I hear Him (besides His Word, of course) is through visions or an inner knowing — what Scripture calls an “unction.”
Second, through nature.
Third, through dreams.
And sometimes through a single word or phrase that keeps replaying in my heart until I finally write it down.
“How do you know that it’s Him?”
That’s one of the hardest and most important questions to answer.
It’s kind of like asking, “How do you recognize your husband’s voice in a crowded room?”
You just know.
That knowing only comes through time, intimacy, and relationship.
When I was younger, I second-guessed everything — “Was that You, God? Or just me?”
But the more time I spent in His Word and in His presence, the more familiar His tone became.
God’s voice never sounds like fear, guilt, or shame.
Even His correction feels safe, loving, and full of peace.
His voice will NEVER contradict his written word. For example— if you think God is telling you to break a 10 commandment, he isn’t.
For me, I know it’s Him when what I hear brings peace — and when it sticks.
If it keeps coming back all day like a gentle nudge, and sometimes even gets louder over time, that’s usually Him.
And honestly? You learn by doing. You have to step out in faith.
I did it just today — I kept hearing something for a friend that didn’t make sense.
But I’ve learned to trust that still, small voice.
So I reached out anyway — and it ended up being exactly what they needed.
That’s how discernment grows: through time, trust, and obedience. (And knowing the Bible REALLY well!)
Final Thoughts
God speaks in the language of relationship.
The more time you spend with Him, the more you’ll recognize His voice.
